This homemade freezer garlic bread is an easy make-ahead side you can keep in the freezer for up to 3 months. Bake just a few slices or as many as you need straight from frozen.
Slice the bread. Cut the French bread into about 1-inch-thick slices.
Make the garlic butter. In a small bowl, mix the softened butter, garlic, garlic powder, parsley, and Parmesan until well combined.
Spread the garlic butter. Spread an even layer of garlic butter over one side of each slice, making sure to spread it all the way to the edges.
Freeze. Arrange the slices buttered-side up in a single layer on a baking sheet. Freeze for 30 minutes, until the butter is firm.
Store. Transfer the slices to a freezer-safe bag or airtight container. If using a bag, squeeze out as much excess air as possible to help prevent freezer burn. Freeze for up to 3 months.
Bake from frozen. Preheat the oven to 375°F. Place the desired number of frozen slices buttered-side up on a baking sheet. Bake for 10 to 15 minutes, or until hot and lightly toasted.
Notes
French bread: My homemade Sourdough Discard French Bread works perfectly for this recipe. Store-bought French bread works too, but because store-bought loaves are often larger, you may need additional garlic butter.
Unsalted butter: You can substitute unsalted butter. Add salt to the garlic butter mixture to taste.
Fresh or dried parsley: I prefer fresh parsley for its color and freshness, but you can substitute about 2 teaspoons dried parsley.
Toaster oven: For 2 to 4 slices, bake from frozen at 375°F for about 10 to 12 minutes.
Air fryer: For 2 to 4 slices, air fry from frozen at 360°F for about 5 to 8 minutes, or until hot and lightly toasted.
