What is Korean Sausage Bread?

Korean sausage bread is a popular item in any Korean bakery. It tastes like pigs in the blanket meet pizza! I know!! It really tastes as good as it sounds. In Korea, one of the common pizza toppings is corn. I know some of you might think this is odd but trust me. The sweetness of the corn not only enhances the flavor of the pizza but also add another fun layer to the texture. So the Korean sausage bread has corn topping!

The traditional Korean Sausage Bread VS. my air fryer Korean sausage bread

The traditional version uses sweet dough that you make from scratch. Also, you bake the sausage bread in the oven.

My version uses the short-cut. I’m using a store-bought crescent roll. And I’m cooking the sausage bread in the air fryer.

  • hot dog on top of crescent roll
  • 4 hot dogs completely wrapped with crescent roll
  • cut the hot dog wrapped in crescent dough
  • twist and flatten each section of the cut hot dog wrapped in crescent roll

How to make air fryer Korean sausage bread

  • Wrap your hot dog (I use smart dog by Lightlife) with a crescent roll.
  • Cut the rolled hot dog enough to cut the sausage completely but not all the dough.
  • Gently lift the piece and twist away from you to the left and lay it down. Gently press down to flatten. Lift the next piece and twist away from you to the right and flatten them. Alternate until all the pieces are flattened (see the photos).
  • Transfer the sausage bread to the air fryer basket.
  • Then add the cheese-corn toppings and drizzle with ketchup.
  • Bake in the air fryer.
  • sausage bread in the air fryer basket
  • ketchup is drizzled on top of sausage bread before cooked in an air fryer

What is so great about this recipe is that you can easily customize it.

How to customize by diet

  • For vegan – You can use Annie’s Organic Crescent roll, Smart Dogs from Lightlife, and vegan cheese to make this completely vegan!
  • For vegetarian – This recipe is vegetarian friendly. You can use any store-bought crescent roll, Smart Dogs from Lightlife, and shredded mozzarella cheese.
  • For omnivore – You can use crescent roll, hot dog, and shredded mozzarella cheese.

Other ways to customize

  • You don’t have to use a crescent roll. Pizza dough or puff pastry makes a great alternative!
  • You can use any melty cheese that you’d use on your pizza. Monterey jack, gruyere, and cheddar cheese are all great choices!
  • If you want to use different vegetables that you’d add to your pizza like mushrooms, black olives, and pickled jalapeno are all going to be delicious!
  • cooking sausage bread in Cosori air fryer
  • air fried sausage bread

How to cook sausage bread

You can cook them in the oven but I really like the air fried version of it. First of all, air fryer takes shorter time to cook. If you were to bake this in the oven, you need to preheat the oven and bake it for at least 11 to 13 minutes. When you cook this in the air fryer, it only takes 8 minutes! Plus, the crescent dough cooked in air fryer is more flaky and crispy!

Let’s Talk about Air Fryer

I recently purchased a Cosori 5.8-QT Air fryer and I absolutely LOVE it! After extensive research (?!!), my choice was between Ninja and Cosori. They both appear to be a fantastic product! But my deciding factor came down to basket size. I talked to many people who own Ninja air fryer. But most wish that they have a bigger size basket. Cosori having a square shape basket minimizes the wasted space and 5.8 quarts one was big enough to cook 4 hamburger patties without crowding them. If you are thinking to buy an air fryer, I highly recommend a Cosori air fryer!

And of course, when you get your air fryer, this Korean sausage bread better be one of the first things you make! Because you will absolutely love them!!

Happy eating, my friends!
