Almond butter smoothie with banana - A creamy and tasty smoothie with almond butter, frozen banana, almond milk, ground flaxseeds, cinnamon, and protein powder! This healthy and delicious breakfast smoothie will keep you full and happy!
Trying to eat breakfast has always been my battle. I'd much rather have a giant cup of coffee or tea in the morning and eat a huge lunch and dinner. I found out that this isn't uncommon. But whether it's for the lack of time in the morning or for a weight-loss journey, it's important to fuel your body to start the day right!
Although my husband and I both enjoy my beet smoothie and cacao smoothie, this smoothie has been our recent favorite! We love this smoothie because it is:
- Creamy
- Sweet
- Filling
- Delicious
How to make almond butter smoothie with banana
- Add almond milk, almond butter, banana, ground flaxseeds, and ground cinnamon in a blender.
- Blend until smooth.
- Add protein powder at the end at the lowest setting until the protein powder is well incorporated.
- Enjoy!
Ingredient Substitution
- Almond milk - I have used soy milk, oat milk, and plain water for this recipe. They all work great!
- Almond butter - You are more than welcome to substitute almond butter with peanut butter. They both are delicious.
- Ground flaxseeds - Ground flaxseeds are added for additional healthy fat and fiber. Another great option is adding chia seeds.
- Protein powder - I enjoy this smoothie as a breakfast so adding protein powder can keep me full longer. I have used vanilla and cookies and cream flavor so far for this recipe. But also I add it for extra sweetness. If you don't want to add protein powder, you can use Medjool dates instead.
Pro Tips
- Use frozen banana if you can - frozen banana can make the smoothie thicker and give you an illusion of drinking something that's more filling. If you are using fresh bananas, add some ice cubes.
- If you don't have almond milk or any milk, just use water. You can add a little more almond butter to compensate for creaminess. After all, almond milk is just ground up almond (=almond butter) and water, right?!
- Add more ice cubes for a thicker smoothie. I usually like to add ice cubes once all the ingredients (except protein powder) are blended (3 to 4 ice cubes at a time) to adjust the thickness/consistency.
- Add your protein powder at the end at the lowest setting until it's well mixed into the rest of the ingredients. I don't know about you but when I add the protein powder with the rest of the ingredients, it tends to foam up. To prevent this, I always add them at the end at the lowest setting for 15 to 20 seconds until everything is mixed.
- Adjust each amount of ingredients to your liking. If you were to follow this recipe exactly, you will be ended up with a sweet and creamy smoothie. But everyone has a different preference so use this recipe as a guideline to create your perfect, filling breakfast smoothie!
